Night terror

I
remember
reluctantly.
In this dream
I start
at each
small noise.
The skin
beneath each hair
sings a high note
shivering
just on the
edge
of beyond hearing.
Staring nervously
through rimed branches
and cold crystals
of mist
I find
the dark centre
of my vision
obscured.
Only at
straining
edges
can my eyes see.
There
dance
vague dim shapes
elusive
among leafless trees,
each melting
when I turn
to face it fully.
I want to
run
but can't see
any safe
direction
I want to
waken
but
