Water music

Rain submerges
this city's
distant sounds
mutes the heavy hum
surrounds me with
an aquarium calm
as I swim the
splashing bottoms
of underwater arroyos
starting and stopping
buses make noises
like the cries
of humpback whales
and echo along
concrete and glass
canyons
until I hear only
water music
and whale songs.
