Greenwood

Earth
water
greenwood
wind
sky
the hiss
of strong wind
through summer leaves.

Protected here
in shifting shade
I carefully sound
stilldeep old dark
inside me
but stay centred
breathing in time with
earth
water
greenwood
wind
sky.

I see blue
through sheltering green
know to draw
from the calm strength
of wood's clear blood
rising
from the deep tap root
driven down solid
into cool dense earth
feeding deep draughts
to the solid trunk
that supports me
against the dark
inside
drawing it
through
tall living wood
reaching upward
twisting and supple
beneath warm bark
raising it
through tough slim fingers
to balance it lightly
at their tips
offering it
to
earth
water
greenwood
wind
sky.
