Random break

"They tell me
cocaine
is a lady's drug"
she said gaily
coming from nowhere
glancing brittly off me
then ricocheting back
through the party
eyes too bright
too dark.

Later
in a sudden lull
I heard
her glistening laugh
shatter
and crash to the floor
like shards of a bottle
smashed on the edge of a bar.

I eased out the door
just before
the screaming started
glad I no longer knew her.

She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie....

...don't forget this fact, you can't get it back...

Dear Lord!

But, why were you glad you no longer knew her and why didn't you know her any more...

Hi, Fingers. I'd thought my reasons for gladness were evident. I thought fairly hard about using the word 'relieved' in its place, but liked the single syllable there. And I didn't know her any more because some love stories are instructive, but do not have fairy tale endings...
