Cold foot or only one foot?

A question for the ages, ma'am.

You may have observed that gulls, for reasons best known only to gulls, often seem to adopt the unipedal perching stance.

Since this one's ensconced on a big sheet of spring ice, I'm just guessin' that maybe he was keeping the other foot - the one that was not on the ice - warm.

Why the silly thing persisted, on a warm spring day with plenty of seating options, in staying where at least one footful of frozen tootsies was a foregone conclusion is something that - again - is best known only to gulls.

Us coyotes are baffled.
