Gordian knife

I read
your careful words.

They tie knots
within nots
wrap meaning
inside
overlapped silk chords
bind and hide the core
deep.

I wonder.

Does this
decorative
hermetic thing
you try to tie
become
any more
impenetrable
the longer
you worry at it
the more meticulously
the more fastidiously
the more obsessively
you tuck in
invisible
loose
ends?

Is there a
bond
tight enough
cord
strong enough
knot
perfect enough
to protect you
from what
you wish hidden
at the centre?

Yes

Cryptic clues can be confounding. Some knots are incorrigible. They won't come undone unless you tie small ones in other places.

You're right, of course. But I think this knot was meant by its maker not to be untied at all...
